Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: World of Warcraft
  • Steam AppID of the game: Non steam game

System Information

  • GPU: Nvidia 1070
  • Video driver version: latest 580.126.09
  • Kernel version: x86_64 Linux 6.17.0-8-generic
  • Link to full system information report as Gist: https://gist.github.com/Dakayl/111157ae3d87b8446ff057e570028f76
  • Proton version: the same issue arise in latest Proton Experimental, latest Proton GE, and Proton UMU 9. I think I could test it on Proton Hotfix too if needed.

(It works flawlessly on my 4070 computer so I think it's related to loading with the 1070).

I confirm:

  • [X] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [X] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Here is a log from Heroic + Proton GE: https://0x0.st/Pqis.log
I'm working on another log from Proton Experimental, I will edit my post

Symptoms

At least half times I click the Play button on Battle.NET, the game doesn't start, its shows a black screen with music and cursor, not fully recovering the wide screen. And sometimes it does work. With no change whatsoever.

Her WoW configuration uses directx11.

Reproduction

  • Start Battle.net on Heroic Game Launcher or Faugus
  • Click on Play
  • 1/2 chance to have the game starting and 1/2 chance to have a black screen.

I have the same issue (but a bit less frequently) when starting wow.exe directly.

Hello @Dakayl, we're using one issue report per unofficially supported game title, so I've gone ahead and transferred this issue report to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/8760#issuecomment-3825029430.
